The Stockport-based funnyman performed some of his best puns on the judges, but not all of the panel understood his jokes.

Darren kicked off his routine with a classic dad joke saying: "I'm not having much luck with dating, the only dates I get are PC updates."

But his lighthearted puns were met by a room of silence.

After finally won them over with a string one-liners which left the crowd and judges belly laughing.

Simon Cowell was full of praise, telling him: "It's like you bought a thousand Christmas crackers and opened them up and read them to us as fast as possible. That's what made it so funny.

"The best acts are people who aren't professional but dream of doing something else."

Simon said he was thrilled to have him back on the show after "bottling it" last year.

The plumber received four big yeses from the judges.

But unhappy viewers insisted that Bruno should be axed after putting him through, despite struggling to understand them.

One wrote: "He needs to slow down and he’d be good. He’s just emphasised why Bruno, much as I love him, shouldn’t be a judge. No way should he be deciding on the future opportunities of entertainers, neither should Alesha, tbh."

A second shared: "Bruno after every joke: [a string of confused emojis]. Bruno after Simon loved it: 'YES!'."

A third pointed out: "Why did Bruno say yes?? He didn't get any of the jokes!?"

"Bruno saying 'yes' to the pun guy without understanding a single joke," a fourth added.
