Swing out ’60s

Big hair and Barbarella-style eyeliner takes a starring role as the cult classic gets an A/W ’12 makeover

Oh Bee-hive!

Bigger is better when it comes to this look. For best results, try Sleep-In Rollers, £24.95, before bed. Take two-inch sections of dry hair and wrap around the Velcro rollers before fixing into place with kirby grips. In the morning, remove the rollers and gently backcomb the crown and roots – avoid tangles by only combing in a downward direction. Smooth hair over with the flat of your hand and spray with Wella Silvikrin Dual Benefit Hairspray, £3.49, to set. Keep make-up to a minimum with a sweep of Nars Bronzing Powder in Laguna, £25, underneath the cheekbones for definition. To finish, use the white eyeliner from Estée Lauder’s Pure Colour Intense Kajal Eye Crayon Duo, £18, on the lower waterline and the brown eyeliner along the upper lash line for a wide-eyed look.

My Little Pony

Tied-back hair just got seriously sexy. Flip towel-dried locks over and apply Tigi Catwalk Volume Collection Your Highness Root Boost Spray, £6.30 (1), to roots. Blow-dry hair in this position. Fix into a ponytail with Leo Bancroft Ponytail Bungee Bands, £3.50 (2). Curl sections of the ponytail with Babyliss Boutique Loose Waves Curling Tong, £29.99. Team with Twiggy-style lashes by piling on L’Oréal Paris Mega Volume Collagene Mascara, £10.99, and lining eyes with Dainty Doll Eyeliner Pencil in Proud Mary, £10.50.

Draw The Line

For a full-on flick, only gel liner will do. Apply Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliner in Black Ink, £17 (3), with a small, firm brush, such as Mac 209 Eye Liner Brush, £16, above the lash line, slowly building up the product to the socket line and out into a flick. Make sure the liner’s thick and even for a graphic finish. If you’re brave enough, wear with a Bardot-style baby-pink pout – we love Miss Sporty Perfect Colour Lipstick in I Like, £2.49 (4). Or go for a pink-based nude lippy. Backcomb hair at the crown and add a simple black hairband for a ’60s siren finish.
