Dewy skin, red-wine lips and metallic eyes. Here’s how to rock A/W’s make-up trends
Sex and the lippy
This season is all about mulberry shades, as seen on the Gucci A/W ’12 catwalk.
*Keep your red-wine look on your lips by lining your pout with a pencil in the same shade, or one shade lighter. This will give your lipstick something to cling to, preventing feathering or bleeding.
*When it comes to choosing a statement shade, brunettes suit dark, purple-based shades such as Barry M Lip Paint in Mulberry, £4.49 (1). If you’re fair, try Nars Larger Than Life Lip Gloss in Rouge Tribal, £19, for a shimmery wash of browny-red.
*Apply Miss Sporty Eye Pencil in Solid, £1.99 (2), to your top and bottom lash lines. This will add drama and ensure it’s not all about your pout.
*Full lashes will open up your eyes. Apply Rimmel London Scandaleyes Mascara, £6.99, pulling the wand out rather than upwards to create a feline finish.
Wake-up call
Au naturel was the look du jour at the Christian Dior A/W shows, and it should be your signature style this season.
*Rimmel London Wake Me Up Foundation, £8.99 (3), is radiance in a bottle – the thick, creamy formula hides any sins from the night before – and will give you a dewy, flawless look no matter how little sleep you’ve had. For lighter coverage, mix it with your face cream to create a tinted moisturiser.
*Max the fresh-faced look by adding a flush to your skin where it would naturally appear. For an A/W blush, go for Mac Mineralize Skinfinish in Star Wonder, £21.50. It’s the perfect mix of pink, purple and bronze tones to give your skin a boost.
*For extra glow, add shimmer to your cheekbones with Rimmel London Wake Me Up Instant Radiance Shimmer Touch in Radiant Rose, £4.99 (4). Blend it from just below the tops of your ears across the apples of your cheeks with circular motions.
Razzle dazzle
Metallics were huge on the A/W ’12 catwalks and we’ll all be rocking sultry sockets with a hint of shine.
*For a simple statement look, use Rimmel London Glam’Eyes Quad Eyeshadow in Smokey Brun, £6.99. Start with the lightest shade, applying with your finger up to the brow then, using a soft brush, sweep the taupe shade over the lid. Finish by applying the darkest shade in the outer corners and the bronze in the inner corners with a hard brush.
*For a super-glossy finish, dab Illamasqua Intense Lipgloss in Opulent, £15.50 (5), over the lid.
*Team with a simple nude lip. We love Rimmel London Hide The Blemish Concealer in Golden Beige, £4.49 (6), for fair-to-medium skin tones. Apply directly to your lips from the stick and blend with your finger to achieve the colour you’re after.
