Raise a glass – to fruity beers

Fruit beers can have an overpowering taste, But Rob Buckhaven has found three that buck the trend

1 Strawberry surprise

Früli Strawberry Beer (£1.61, Tesco) is like a strawberry smoothie with bags of attitude.

Blagger’s guide

The addition of 30 per cent strawberry purée gives this beer its celebrated fruity flavour.

2 Raisins rule

Cains Fine Raisin Beer (£1.62, Asda) has rich notes of sultanas dipped in caramel.

Blagger’s guide

This beer won the prestigious World’s Best Fruit Beer prize at the Annual World Beer Awards in 2007.

3 Pop a cherry

Liefmans Cuvée Brut (£3.29, Waitrose) brims with elegant cherry bubbles.

Blagger’s guide

This beer is slightly more expensive, as it is made by macerating whole fresh cherries.
