When we popped to the Olympic Beach Volley Ball Semi-Finals at Horse Guards parade yester eve, we discovered a very hard working team…The Rakers, aka volunteers with rakes, come onto the sandy pitch and smooth out the ball-induced mounds. As the Benny Hill theme tune plays, they scurry around raking as they go while the beach volley ball players limber up and talk tactics for another round. Fun. We were also a bit in love with the Horse Guards Parade dancers, who come on between sets and during Time Out. As it was chucking it down with rain, we danced along to keep warm.
In fact we did a lot of dancing as Brazil took on USA in the women’s semi-final match, and Germany battled it out with The Netherlands, because after every point scored they play a top tune. It’s a bit like a big sport disco – So.Much.Fun. Oh and Rizzle Kicks came on between the two games. Nice of them to pop by and sing a few songs.
We cheered until our throats hurt a bit when the USA beat Brazil two sets to one, to make it into the ladies final and defos get a silver medal at the very least.
And Germany thrashed The Netherlands two sets to nil as all the action finished at midnight. How do we know? Big Ben, which peeps out at the top of the beach volley ball stadium, chimed to tell us so. It was all amazing. And now we heart the Olympics even more.
