Celebs swear by the juice diet and it’s not just weight loss it can fix. Read on for our EXCLUSIVE recipes
Celebrity Juice isn’t just a TV show, it’s an A-lister way of life. About half of Tinseltown appears to be on a “juice cleanse” (ie only sipping smoothies, gulp!). But is all this juice hype justified?
Expert juicer Jason Vale says it is. “Blended fruit and vegetables will bypass the digestion process, allowing your body to focus on absorbing nutrients,” he says. “This produces surplus raw energy in the body, which breaks down fat.” Cue a hotter, healthier bod. We asked Jason to give us some juicy new recipes that deliver maximum impact, and not just for your weight woes. PS Don’t forget your juicer!

SLIM DOWN
Simply swap your breakfast for a Summer Slimmer for a week, and you should see results immediately.
Method
Put the apple in the juicer chute followed by other ingredients. Juice the lot! Pour over ice.
Why it works
*Cucumber is a natural diuretic and it helps to flush excess toxicity from the body, which aids weight loss.
*Citric acid in lime helps the liver produce more bile, which aids food digestion and helps burn fat.
*You burn twice as many calories digesting celery than the calories gained eating it.
You’ll need
1 Pink Lady apple
¼mediumcucumber
1 stick celery
3cm piece fresh root ginger
½ lime
1 handful of small ice cubes
Serves 1

Try a… Summertime Blues
Brain-boosting berries will help combat anxiety and depression. Plus they’ll blast away fat!
Method
Peel the oranges, leaving on the pith, which aids digestion. Put an orange in the juicer chute, juice on the slowest setting, pack in the berries and the other orange, then juice again. Pour over ice.
Why it works
* One study has found that the anthocyanins in berries inhibit key enzymes that lead to anxiety and depression.
* Blueberries contain a compound called pterostilbene, which has been shown to break down fat and cholesterol.
* Berries are a great source of antioxidants and vitamins. They contain soluble fibre, bone-building vitamin K and pectin, a substance that has been shown to regulate blood-sugar levels and keep sweet cravings at bay.
You’ll need
2 oranges, peeled
2 handfuls of blueberries
1 handful of blackberries
1 small handful of ice cubes
Serves 1

Try a… Get Ripped
If you’re working out to look your best for the beach, then make this juice just before and after training to maximise results.
Method
Put one apple in first (with skin on and core in). Place all of the other ingredients into the juicer chute and then use the second apple to pack everything in tight. Juice everything on the highest setting and pour over ice.
Why it works
* Golden Delicious apples’ sweet flavour assists with what’s known as the applestat reaction. That’s the neurological reaction that tells the body to stop eating.
* Kale is full of nutrients. One handful of steamed kale contains more than the recommended daily allowance (RDA) of vitamin K for strong bones as well as vitamin A, which helps muscle growth.
* Celery is high in energy-releasing vitamins B1, B2 and B6. It also contains potassium, which helps control your salt cravings.
* Spinach contains twice as much fibre as any other leafy green vegetable, but is still low in calories, so it helps fill you up without filling you out.
* Cucumber is an excellent source of antioxidant vitamins A and C, and its high water content will help flush out toxins.
2 Golden Delicious apples
1 stick celery
¼medium cucumber
1 small handful
of spinach
1 small handful of kale
1 small handful of ice cubes
Serves 1

Try a… Bitter-Sweet Sunshine
If summer colds or hay fever are getting you down, this tropical cocktail will attack the sniffles.
Method
Simply juice the grapefruit and pineapple and mix equal parts of each with the sparkling water. Pour over ice.
Why it works
*Pineapple is rich in manganese, which helps the body metabolise glucose and fat into energy. Its vitamin C content will not only fight infection but keep your levels of cortisol – the stress hormone that contributes to a weaker immune system – under control.
*Pineapple also contains bromelain, a mixture of which have anti-inflammatory properties. Drinking the juice when you have a cold will help soothe a sore throat.
*Grapefruit can help to dissolve the excess mucus, and so relieve the symptoms of asthma, hay fever and colds.”
1-2 pink grapefruits, peeled
1-2 pineapples, peeled
300ml San Pellegrino Sparkling water
1 small handful of ice cubes
Serves 1
