Jessie J’s make-up artist, Karin Darnell, tells us how she created this red carpet look
Creamy complexion “Jessie suits a warm glow, so I avoided powder and used Urban Decay Afterglow Glide-On Cheek Tint in Indecent, £18 (1). I then applied St Tropez Skin Illuminator in Violet, £12.26, along the centre of her nose, above her cupid’s bow, and cheekbones for a 3D finish.”
Go glow “To prep the skin, I used St Tropez Naturals Radiance Self Tan For Face, £21.45, (2) which can be built up to achieve the desired colour. For a subtle glow, I used it the night before and again just before applying the make-up.”
Raise the brow “I wanted to keep Jessie’s eyebrows softer and much lighter than normal to complement the strong eye look. I lightly defined her brows by mixing shades from Givenchy Eye And Brow Prisme, £30.50, (3).”
Stay in tone “I used the same cream blush on her lips as her cheeks, adding a hint of shine by tapping Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Supreme Shine in Light Pink Beige, £20, (4) gently on to her pout.”
Barely there “For a fresh complexion, I applied Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow in Champagne, £24.50, only where it was needed – for example along the T-zone. To disguise dark circles and blemishes, I worked in Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer in Warm Ivory, £17, (5) with my fingertips.”
Bambi eyes “I wanted Jessie to have a ’20s doe eye, so I swept on Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place ShadowCreme in Midnight Kohl, £16.50, with a brush. I then added Giorgio Armani Eyes To Kill Intense Eyeshadow in 003, £26, (6) on top – the purple and gold look striking against the black.”
On the lash “For extra drama, I used Mac Eye Kohl in Smolder, £14, all around the eyes before applying Eylure Naturalites 100 Super Full Lashes, £5.35, (7) to enhance her natural flutter. To finish, I brushed layers of Givenchy Noir Couture Mascara, £25,(8) on to the top and bottom lashes.”
