This book is such a gem that I had to share it. It’s not chick lit, nor is it a murder mystery. It’s something totally different – a real modern day drama about family, love and loss. Arthur Opp is an obese man who hasn’t left his house in Manhattan in years, whilst 18-year-old Kel Keller is the high school baseball hero. The two have never met, but are actually bound together by one person – Kel’s mentally ill, alcoholic mum. I don’t normally go for books about – gasp – boys, and even less about stuff like sport, but writer Liz Moore manages to create two incredibly different characters with voices that will stay with you long after you finish the story. And that’s always the best kind of book.
Read it - you won’t regret it. This is bestseller material.
Heft by Liz Moore is out now (£9.99, Hutchinson)

Sounds good, will have to check it out~
This sounds wonderful and I love the cover. I’m sitting here wondering if the obese man is the baseball boy’s father – already. I should probably just go ahead and add it to my to-reads.
