As a Sky Sports News presenter, Charlotte Jackson, 33, loves anything
involving a ball. So where else to chat to her than on the golf course?
Where Dukes Meadow, Chiswick, London
Nice golfing threads, Charl! But can you actually play?
Yeah, well I have good and bad days! I’ve been playing for about four years.
My mum and dad got me into it. Since then, I’ve been on golfing holidays to
everywhere from Wales to Tobago.
Well jel! Andy Gray was famously sacked from Sky Sports after being a bit
lecherous to you. How did you feel about that?
It was all a bit weird, really. I never had much to do with Andy at work – we
just happened to be filming a Christmas special that day. I did the
Champion’s League with Richard [Keys] and he was always fine with me.
Do male fans try to catch you out and ask you the offside rule?
Nah. Anyone can parrot the offside rule without really knowing what it means.
But I can definitely hold my own talking about football. My brother calls me
“Statto” because I absorb loads of facts about sport. It would be pretty
obvious on TV if I didn’t know what I was talking about.
That’s all very well, but can you hold your own in the most important place –
the bar?
Ha ha. No! Not at all. A glass of wine and I’m gone. I once gave up drinking
for 18 months because my then-boyfriend didn’t drink, and I remember having
a tiramisu and feeling slightly drunk after just a few mouthfuls.
After hosting reality show 71 Degrees North, would you take part in a reality
show?
If I got offered something like Strictly or Dancing On Ice. Even I’m A Celeb!
might be fun. I will eat literally anything, so when they do those
challenges, I always think: “I could do that!” When I was about two, I ate
an earthworm and it came out in my nappy – still alive.
Eww! Is it true you sang backing vocals on Tony Christie’s Amarillo?
Yes! I was on Top Of The Pops. You can see me in the background. I used to be
in a band with Carolynne Poole, who got to the judges’ houses stage of The X
Factor last year. She called me to say she was supporting Tony Christie and
he needed another backing singer. It was brilliant fun.
You were linked with Declan Donnelly after he split with your colleague
Georgie Thompson…
Oh, I just happened to be pictured next to him. I’d been at a house party, and
about 12 of us left to go to the pub together. I had Dec on one side and
Brooke Kinsella and Paddy McGuinness on the other, but nobody mentioned
them. If I walk out of a party with a girlfriend, nobody assumes I’m a
lesbian!
Quite. So you have a boyfriend, then?
Erm, yes [giggles] – he’s called Dougie. I’ve been seeing him since July. He’s
a producer at Sky and he does some reporting too. He’s only 26, so that
makes me a cougar!
Right, enough golf for one day. Shall we head to the clubhouse?

Yes, let’s. But mine’s a coffee. I can’t handle my booze, remember…
