Gone are the days of super-sweet Hock. Germany is now producing some deliciously dry white wines, says Rob Buckhaven

1 Zesty

Kleine Kapelle Pinot Grigio (£4.39, on offer, Co-op) has plenty of
pineapple zing.

Blagger’s guide: considered to be Italian, the Pinot Grigio grape
was actually discovered growing wild by a German monk in 1711.

2 Fruity

Primus Pinot Grigio (£6.29, Waitrose) has crisp and delicious pear
flavours – perfect with a classic Caesar salad.

Blagger’s guide: the vines for this wine are planted in a heart
shape to trap lots of sunshine.

3 Full-bodied

Tesco Finest Steillage Mosel Riesling (£6.79, Tesco) is
lime-tastic with a juicy streak of cantaloupe melon.

Blagger’s guide: Mosel winemakers are fighting a motorway being
built through the historic vineyards.

Stockists: The Co-operative (Co-operative.coop/food), Tesco (Tesco.com),
Waitrose (Waitrose.com)
