We’re thinking it’s probably safe to assume that the last year is one that
Tess Daly would rather forget. After all, not many couples would relish
having to play out their marital difficulties under the harsh glare of the
public eye.
But for Tess and husband Vernon Kay, who have always fiercely guarded their
privacy, shunning big-money offers for ‘at-home’ glossy magazine shoots and
taking care to shield their two little girls from the showbiz spotlight, it
was particularly excruciating.
So it’s perhaps not surprising that nearly 14 months on from the scandal that
saw Vernon confessing to sharing sexy texts with five different women,
Strictly Come Dancing host Tess, 41, seems a little tense, brittle even, as
she settles down for our interview.
This is despite the fact that she and Vernon, 36, have long since weathered
the storm, emerging stronger and with their seven-and-a-half-year marriage
intact. Indeed, Tess declares herself today as fitter, happier and ready to
face the future.
“I feel better than I ever have, I really do,” she says. “I feel good. I’ve
got a greater understanding of life now and a lot of experience. And I’m
grateful for that experience because I think it enables you.”
